Twisters - Review

If You Feel It, Chase It.

3.5 / 5

The Guardians of the Galaxy team line up

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung.

As storm season intensifies, the paths of former storm chaser Kate Carter and reckless social media superstar Tyler Owens collide when terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed.

Twisters isn't a direct sequel or a reboot, but instead a continuation of the long standing tradition of big screen blockbusters with a focus on spectacle over story.

Natural disaster films are tough to get right so it's even more surprising that Lee Isaac Chung, the director behind the tranquil Minari was at the helm of this latest slice of catastrophe. The mix of destruction set against rural Oklahoma shot on film showed a keen and experienced eye behind the camera.

Daisy Edgar-Jones does a fantastic job in the lead with the ever-charismatic Glen Powell taming tornadoes and audiences worldwide. Like the 1996 original, this boasts an impressive supporting cast of weather enthusiasts to come alongside the adventure.

Twisters knows why we buy tickets - large scale insane action sequences. And by blending computer and practical effects it delivers some awe-inspiring moments, especially in the film's second half. Outside of that, the cast holds together its paper thin plot which is still a great time at the movies.
