Will You Let Me Have This One Day?
Review written by Jack Aling
Last Swim is directed & written by Sasha Nathwani and co-written by Helen Simmons. Starring Deba Hekmat, Lydia Flemming & Denzel Baidoo.
On A-level results day, an ambitious Iranian-British teen in London grapples with a major life decision while hanging out with friends across the city.
Capturing the final days of adolescent freedom Last Swim is a pretty 'by the books' coming of age film. Still, through its beautiful direction and London setting, there was something mesmerising and almost comforting about it.
Deba Hekmat shines as the lead Ziba as she hides a secret which makes her determined to have the perfect day with her friends by any means necessary.
Set to a fantastic soundtrack and with an appearance from an incredible looking Falafel wrap, it was easy to fall headfirst into Last Swim's world even if I couldn't handle being around most of the characters for more than 20 minutes.
Our verdict: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Last Swim releases in 2025.
